AMG GT3

The sports car and performance brand of Mercedes-Benz is presenting a new customer sport racing car that complies with FIA GT3 race regulations in the form of the new Mercedes-AMG GT3. The superb racetrack performance of the road-going GT forms the ideal basis on which to model the new Mercedes-AMG GT3, which is due to make its debut appearance at the Geneva Motor

Mercedes-AMG wants to repeat the success of the SLS AMG GT3 with the lither, lower-displacement AMG GT3.

Mercedes-AMG has released the first photo of their upcoming AMG GT3, a successor of sorts to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3. That car was built to FIA GT3 standards, and the intent of AMG was to primarily sell them to gentleman racers for weekend track day activities, although a number of them raced quite successfully in a variety of more substantial events: Pirelli World Challenge, FIA GT3 European Championship, Blancpain Endurance Series, the 24 Hours of Nurburgring.

A strong minority of SLS GT3s racked up a number of victories in those series. And the SLS GT3 looked great, which didn't hurt things any. Mercedes-AMG wants to repeat this success with the lither, lower-displacement AMG GT3. As before, it conforms to FIA GT3 standards.

But other than that, Mercedes isn't releasing any hard data about the car. There's no word of changes to the powertrain, although they are almost certainly present. If the SLS AMG is any guide, expect around 600 hp and a weight of right around 3000 lbs. The AMG GT S already makes 503 hp from its bi-turbo 4-liter V8—only 63 hp less than the 6.2-liter V8 in the road-going SLS AMG—so altering boost to meet the race regulations shouldn't be an issue.
